James Hall Gallery
About
Born in Worcestershire, employed in the print trade, I have worked closely with photographers and artists to publish post cards, greetings cards, fine art prints and calendars.

I work in two mediums; acrylic on to stretched Canvas and gouache on to watercolour paper. Both are completely different mediums but both allow me to express myself with true depth and colour but still retain a subtlety.

My technique is mostly self taught, with a little help and inspiration from fellow Worcestershire artist Robin Jennings. I have precise style and pay attention to detail to ensure proportions are accurate so that the aspects that I paint are instantly recognisable.

I like to try different styles and mediums whether it be the use of knife to add texture with acrylic or experimenting with collage.
I am a keen walker and a wildlife enthusiast.
In 2003 my portraits of a Greylag Goose and Kingfisher were used by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust for Christmas Cards.

In 2008 the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust used two of my designs as Christmas Cards to promote their acquisition extra land at the Devils Spittleful Nature Reserve.

I exhibit in galleries in Worcestershire and the Lake District, my true passion is for the fells and lakes of Cumbria which I first discovered on a Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition. Ever since that first encounter I have been painting Lakeland Landscapes. Derwent Water and Borrowdale are my favourite regions to paint and I consider autumn to be the most beautiful time of year. I love the rich colours of the trees and on crisp frosty mornings the reflections of sky and mountains.
